Revenge, Inc. Part 28: A Short Story: The Finale
60Author's Note
Hello everyone and welcome back. Just to let you know, that will be the very last time I say that as this is obviously the last installment in this series. My good friend and fellow Hubber emievil was hoping that there would be at least two or three more installments after Part 27, but sadly, as you can see, that's not happening. Truth be told, I was planning to complete this series with Part 24. Needless to say, this installment AND the entire body of work took me a great deal of time to write and required a lot of thought, as I wasn't sure how it was going to end and I finally got to the END (haha). I really thought I had it all figured out months ago. Although this did take a lot of time to write, I enjoyed every bit it and wouldn't have it any other way.
I cannot thank you enough for all reading this work in which I started way back in October of 2009. Somehow or way, I inadvertently wrote a NOVEL without intending to. More surprisingly, you guys were right here with me the entire way. My dream is to see this in print and maybe into a movie down the road. Please keep in mind that this entire body of work is my first draft and so changes will obviously have to be made before I ship it off to a literary agent. By the way, sometime soon, I'm planning on writing an interactive hub in which I will answer all of your questions regarding Revenge, Inc. so please keep on the look out for it. I can't thank all of you guys enough, so THANK YOU for reading me...
And for the last time, if you haven't already, please, please, please start reading this work beginning with Part One. You can click on the link below to get started. Thank you and I hope you enjoy!

The Light of Saint Augustine - Part 3
The first drops of rain began to fall. Gusts of wind course through the darkened city of Valhalla. The Father paces the floor of his deteriorating Cathedral back and forth in deep thought while an uncomfortable stillness lingers. Without needing a full report on the whereabouts of his only son, he knew that something was indeed wrong. Something isn’t right, the Father thinks to himself. It wasn’t a feeling or s surge of intuition, but merely a “knowing” more than anything else that something was in fact amidst. Cody MacLaren or simply Marak was in danger. After some thought, the Father kneels before Christ, his Savior, and prays aloud.
“Peace, Cody. Peace…Both Rayna and your unborn child need you.”
Between Two Friends - Part 2
“There was nothing else I could do, you understand? I couldn’t help her. I couldn’t bring her back after that—I mean I put my hand over her mouth to quiet her, to stifle her cries…She was calling for you, Cody. She was calling for her father.”
I couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t bear to keep still.
“Not another step, Cody, or whatever the hell else you now call yourself…Or else.”
“Or else what?” I barked.
“Or else my sniper’s high-powered rifle that now has you in its cross-hairs is going to put a hole inside of you the size of a bowling ball. He’s the best my money can buy. What? You’d think I’d come here unprepared? You should know me better than that. And what a shame—all that time you spent mastering the art of Ninjitsu won’t save you now. No, don’t bother looking for him because you won’t find him. He’s hidden in shadow. Now do yourself a favor and put that goddamn katana down and whatever weapons you have.”
Suddenly, four things happened almost simultaneously: The first thing I heard was the unmistakable sound of a single shuriken in flight and the second thing I heard was it finding its target with a thud. The third was Peter’s sniper firing inadvertently high into the air—the sound was faint due to the rifle’s silencer. The fourth and final sound was the sniper himself falling to the ground nearly one-hundred yards away. A shuriken was firmly lodged in his neck as a pool of blood began to spread over the tar…” Katsuro, I thought. There was no one else. I couldn’t see him but I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was him. Just as instantaneous as the thought came to mind, it was confirmed because a familiar voice spoke:
“We are now even, gai-jin. The circle is nearly closed. There are no more obstacles Marak.” And just like that, Katsuro disappeared. I never did get to see him that night nor any other night, but I sure as hell didn’t need to.
I turned to look at Peter whose face grew very pale. It seemed the weight of the universe was on his shoulders, as he began to slump—as if his knees would fail him anytime. His hands were splayed out in submission. “I’m sorry,” his gesture said, “For everything.” He had no more outs and had nowhere else to go. There wasn’t a yacht big enough or Gulfstream Jet fast enough to get away from me in the here and now. It was just Peter and me and no one else. For a split second, I knew that was going to go into a whole monologue about how he truly was sorry for everything that he did. But my actions spoke louder and faster than his words ever could. It was so fast…Just as fast as my katana was drawn, it was inside Peter by way of his solo plexus—the hollow center of his body. It was beginning to rain again.
“A true friend has the decency to stab you in the front and not the back. No apologies, Pete,” I said to him and then retracted my blade. The steady coursing rain was cleaning it as I stood before him in the clearing. Peter then fell to his knees and was looking up at me. Adrianna and Haley...Master Akira and Natsumi…All four of them flashed before me in a blur. “I loved you, Peter. You were like a brother to me. You took what little I had and brought this upon yourself. You created this hell, not me.” I then picked up Peter and raised him high above my head—as high as I could lift him with my arms outstretched vertically. The blood from his gaping hole was continuing to run. It set a course from my hands and down my arms. It fell on my face and chest. I carried Peter the few feet needed to reach the edge of the rooftop and released. His lifeless body was in flight. It was then that nearly all my strength left me.
My Salvation
This old feeling is unfamiliar to me. I regained consciousness while leaned back against the outer edge of the rooftop. My darkened uniform is made darker by the rain and residue. There is blood on me and among me, but it doesn’t belong to me—It belongs to someone else, someone from my past. All of it is evidence that was slowly washing away. There is a katana that is over four hundred years old strapped to my back, inside of a scabbard but I’m not sure what it’s for. It’s surely must be an heirloom of some kind, harboring many, many memories. And it’s not that I’ve forgotten what it once was for, only now it’s lost its purpose, but never its meaning. I look up at the dark sky and can see the rain drops fall from thousands of feet above. I finally find the will stand and I soon realize this surprising fact:
My strength to hate is gone.
It began with Adrianna and ended with Peter and I didn’t ask for any of this to happen. I said it time and again that I’d exchange my own life to give back the lives of all that I loved. But none of that matters now, does it? What does matter is present, the here-and-now, in preparation for the future. All of my fears were gone. I suddenly realize what I needed to do—something that I was perhaps meaning to do. I’m enraptured by the thought of her, by the warmth of her presence, by the beauty of her face. I finally understood: Rayna, I thought. I have to tell her everything…I have to tell her that she was right all along. My heart is beating faster and faster and for the first time in a long time another thought entered my mind:
There is hope.
The Culmination of Four Hundred Years
Many miles away, a hundred people—men and women alike—are kneeling down against the sand whilst patiently awaiting the Master. Only the sound of the wind and the crashing waves can be heard from all around. The stillness is palpable. To each, the calm serenity is only in passing, as what awaits them is anything but the promise of peace. Much time has passed since all of them began waiting, but the waiting was necessary, as the ability is the reflection of their diligence. Several years have past since The Final Battle had taken place and they themselves had only heard it as mere legend. At long last, he appears before them in an instant; the Master appears sooner than they expected, yet later than they had hoped. His face is expressionless and his voice has no trace of a viable tone:
“There is no peace without war, no life without death, no pleasure without pain…The most beautiful flower in the world require the corpses of many to flourish. For those who have wronged others must be righted, or else there is chaos. Do not waste your time telling me about forgiveness, because forgiveness will not bring back my father or my sister who died doing what they believed was right. It will not calm the rage inside me or stop the injustice that the world finds convenient to ignore—nor will it bring them back to me—this I already know…The cry you yourselves ignore may just be your own—it’s the voice inside yourselves that refuses to keep quiet. It’s the voice of reason…
“If you think that you are here now because you chose to be, then you are sadly mistaken. You see, I have personally chosen all of you. You were painstakingly handpicked by me in accordance with your background and by the uniqueness of your situation.
“It is your uneasiness of injustice—of wrongs un-wronged—that fuels your rage and it is your rage that brought you here. However, it will be your perseverance to succeed that will earn you your right to get you out of here and I will show you how. I will mold you into the perfect weapon, as I am the culmination of four hundred years, of vigorous training. Some will say that ours’ is a dying art, but I say otherwise. You yourselves will carry on the Watanabe Clan tradition: You will take what you learn from here and spread yourselves across this world with one sole purpose: To make your resolve known.
“So look around you and to each other…You are now brothers and sisters who will help to attain each other’s goals. The more you help each other, the more you help yourselves. Each of you has lost a loved one through an senseless act of violence. Each of you has suffered the pain of loss and watched helplessly as the so-called Law did nothing to quench your thirst for vengeance. Your purpose is to succeed where others have failed due to the verbal bonds of that same Law. All of you are here united as one and will see to it that the Balance of Justice is indeed restored, now and forever. This place is a symbol of such. With that said, welcome to Jirai Island. Welcome to Revenge, Inc.”

Darn! I was out of town when this came out so I was not able to read it. I thought there's 2 or 3 more to go but well, I'm not disappointed it ends here. Cody finally got his revenge and is at peace and (I think) reunited with Rayna ;). I voted all yes Dohn, just tell me when the book will come out and I'll be in line to get my copy :D. There was hope the baby and Rayna, of course, plus you are one of them now, I like the way you thought, your words are moving and your sense of justice is superb.
Revenge has taken its toll, you dont need to do it, but alas friends are at times our worst enemies --
And the traditon of the Watanabe clan is forever preserve
I will borrow your words, I like this one --
“There is no peace without war, no life without death, no pleasure without pain…The most beautiful flower in the world require the corpses of many to flourish.
Bravo Dohn, thank you and wishing you success, publish it soonest!
Take care, Maita
It was quite strange, because the characters in the video looked almost exactly the way I imagined your characters looking in the story. My brother in law took Ninja for years, and may still be taking the courses. He has followed the teaching through his life in Atlanta, Indiana, Mississippi, Chicago, Nebraska, and South Caralina. Of course he is not as skilled as your characters. Ha. Very well written and spell binding reading. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. (: v
Excellent - Finally, some light at the end of the Tunnell. It's a wonderful story, which took us (the readers) through different emotions and we couldn't wait to read the next chapter.

You made it all the way to the end...Good luck with the publishers out there. If they have any taste, they'll be all over it like white on rice.

Happy New Year Dohn, I hope life is treating you well and I hope you get this message as you are what I consider a great friend !
Wonderful Hub. God Bless You.
I will have to say that this is just a wonderful series and I do hope that you turn this into a novel for yourself. I think that it would be extremely successful. I enjoyed each and every chapter--however, I can argue a couple of instances about your main character's ascension and deception in to a bit of madness :) But his is what made your series fantastic.
All the best to you. Take care Dohn.
AIDY.
I hope you are working on making this a published book - we haven't seen much of you on H/P for a while! Just checking in, and hoping things are going well for you! Wishing you the best :D
